Shani Amavasya 2025

Regional News: In Hinduism, Amavasya Tithi has special importance. Amavasya Tithi is considered auspicious for ancestral offerings, bathing, donations, and worship. On the day of Shani Amavasya, one must read or listen to the story of this festival; only then are its fruits obtained. According to the story described in various Puranas, the Sun God had two wives, Sangya and Chhaya. Sangya was the daughter of Lord Vishwakarma.

When she was married to the Sun God, she was unable to bear the Sun's brightness. One day Goddess Sangya brought her replica, Chhaya, and asked her to live in her place. Chhaya started living as the wife of the Sun God. On the other hand, Sangya herself came in the form of a horse and started roaming on the earth.

Birth Of Shani On Amavasya

Even Chaaya was unable to bear the brightness of the Sun God. One day when the Sun God came to Chaaya with the desire of having a child, Chaaya's complexion turned black after seeing his brightness, and she became pregnant. Shani Dev was born as Chaaya's son. The day Shani Dev was born was Saturday and Amavasya Tithi. Therefore, Shani Amavasya has special importance from a religious point of view.

Surya’s Anger And Chhaya’s Truth

On seeing Shani Dev, Surya Dev became angry because his complexion was dark. Surya Dev told Sangya that this cannot be my son. After this, Surya Dev also came to know that his wife, Chhaya, has been living in place of Sangya for a long time. Surya Dev became even more angry on knowing this truth and left Chhaya and Shani Dev and went in search of his first wife, Sangya.

Shani’s Penance And Shiva’s Boon

When Shani Dev grew up, he vowed to make himself more influential and powerful than even the Sun God and started praying to Lord Shiva. Pleased with Shani Dev's penance, Lord Shiva gave him the position of judge and magistrate among the planets. Lord Shiva also blessed him that, O Shani, you will have a special place and respect among the nine planets. No one among the three worlds will be spared by your justice. You will do justice by looking at the deeds of all living beings.

Shani’s Worship And Planetary Justice

After getting the boon from Lord Shiva, Lord Shani became one of the nine planets and was worshipped. Reading the story of Shani on the day of Shani Amavasya is auspicious and gives inspiration to achieve a high position through deeds.
